From Salvatore and Maria Rosaria's first workshop in Pattada's old town to the Museo Culter. A story that goes on.
The workshop is born
Salvatore Giagu and Maria Rosaria Deroma open in Pattada the first forge devoted solely to knife-making. Maria Rosaria is the first woman, in the history of Pattada, to specialise in the handcraft of the knife.
The seven patents
Experimenting with alternative materials — ivory, Damascus, coral, gold filigree — leads to the registration of seven patented models in Rome: Muflone, Antico Folding, Antico Fixed Blade, Onde, Foglia, Elica, Torciglione.
The 1st International Exhibition
Ten years after founding, the Giagus stage in Pattada the "1st International Custom Knife Exhibition", drawing more than 15,000 visitors — an extraordinary success for a village of just under 3,000 people.
The Museo Culter is born
In the Giagu-Deroma building, the first international knife museum in Italy is born. Four sections: the international knife, the antique knife, the Giagu display, the workshop open to the public.
The second generation
From this year the second generation takes its place at the bench: Letizia, straight after her diploma, chooses to carry on the family work. A year later Adriano follows, fresh from his engineering degree in Turin. Soon Aurelia joins too, later specialising in jewellery — and so Giagu Design is born.
Fortieth anniversary
Forty years of fire and hands shaping horn and steel. One family, one signature, seven patents. Collectors across five continents. A story that goes on.
